Halloween can be celebrated in numerous ways by trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, dressing up in costumes, and even watching scary movies with loved ones. Regardless of how it is celebrated, safety is a top priority. Halloween will be different this year, but it is still crucial to stay alert and safe if we choose to celebrate in any way.

**Did you know?**

*The latest federal highway safety data displays that children are at a higher risk to be struck and killed   by a vehicle on Halloween than any other day of the year.

*Statistic reports indicate that this year 62 percent of the respondents stated they were planning to hand out candy and 46 percent of the respondents said they were going to carve a pumpkin as part of their Halloween festivities.

*Tee-Peeing, throwing eggs, destruction of property and vandalism are some of the common crimes committed by youth in Halloween.

*Texas has a “no candy” law prohibiting convicted sex offenders from handing out candy on Halloween.

Sex offenders must keep their lights off on Halloween to indicate no candy will be given at their home.

Centex Crime Stoppers – Crime of the Week 10/6/2021

This week Centex Crime Stoppers would like to bring awareness to the community about an issue that we encounter quite often, especially during the holiday season. Each year we see more and more elderly citizens fall victim to some type of financial fraud. The scammer will pose as some sort of romantic interest, sweepstakes or lottery representative, or even as a young relative of the elderly who is requesting financial help to bail them out of a tough situation. Once the scammer is successful, they often have access to financial interest’s that have been accrued by the hard work of the victim over the course of their working lives. Our seniors make highly sought after targets due to their trusting, polite, and helpful demeanors.

As if being a victim of a fraudulent scam isn’t enough, many fail to report it because they may not know how, or they are embarrassed that they were victimized.  Centex Crime Stoppers can use your help in sharing this information with the senior members of your families, and within the community. Remember, if there is ever any doubt about a phone call, text message, email, or other correspondence that you or a family member receives, do not hesitate to contact local law enforcement.

If you have any information about any case or any local crime, call Centex Crime Stoppers 24 hours a day at 1-254-865-8477 (TIPS) or visit our website at www.
